CPA Licensing Protection
North Carolina Occupational License Law Firm Defends CPA Clients from Allegations of Misconduct
North Carolina Board of Certified Public Accountant Examiners
The North Carolina Board of Certified Public Accountant Examiners is an independent, self-funded occupational licensing board that grants certificates of qualification as certified public accountants (CPAs) to those individuals who meet the statutory requirements. The Board also adopts and enforces the Rules of Professional Ethics and Conduct to be observed by CPAs in this State.
Professional Standards Committee
The Professional Standards Committee of the Board receives and investigates complaints against CPAs. You are entitled to be represented by legal counsel during the investigation. It is critical that the Board’s investigative staff receive a timely and thorough response to their request for information. If the staff’s investigation does not substantiate the violation, the Committee may recommend that the case be closed. If the complaint is substantiated, the Committe ordinarily instructs the staff to offer a consent order to the CPA.
Having experienced legal counsel on your side is critical to negotiating the best possible result. If the matter is not settled by entry of a consent order, the case will proceed to a public disciplinary hearing. At the conclusion of a hearing, the Board may revoke the CPA’s certicate either permanently or for a specified time, impose a censure, or asess a civil penalty not to exceed $1,000. Appeals of the Board’s order are to superior court and then to the Court of Appeals.
